Maitreyi Ramakrishnan was born on 28 December 2001 in Mississauga, Ontario where she was also raised. Her parents were Tamil who immigrated to Canada from Sri Lanka because of the civil war. She thinks of herself as Tamil-Canadian rather than Sri-Lankan. Regarding education, she attended Lisgar Middle School for elementary and graduated from Meadowvale Secondary School.
In her last year at Meadowvale Maitreyi put her mind on acting and a year later she got the part in Netflix teen comedy series Never Have I Ever. She deferred her acceptance to the theater program at York University in Toronto so she could shoot the series. She also deferred the study program the second time and switched her degree to human rights and equity studies.
In the series she plays the protagonist Devi Vishwakumar. Her role had several award nominations: the Independent Spirit Award, Canadian Screen Award and the MTV Movie and TV Award.
In July 2020, Netflix reported that the series has been viewed by 40 million households globally since its release.

Regarding her personal life, Maitreyi opened up on Laverne Cox's If We’re Being Honest. When asked about dating she said she is more concerned about the personality of her partner and that she doesn’t care whether the person is a boy or a girl or something in between, that is just the package that carries the person. She stated she is more focused on someone that understands her.
Maitreyi also stated that she is currency single and that she prefers it that way for now. She confirmed that she hasn’t had a serious relationship for a few years now.
In an interview with Teen Vogue she explained her own journey with self love and how it affects her. She said that it is pretty normal, one day she feels great and the other she feels down, just like other people.
We can say that Maitreyi is a rising star with many more challenges to face, whether they are personal or professional. We wish her the best of luck!
