The Grand Canyon, Arizona

The Grand Canyon is an adventurer's dream. Follow the instinct that reveals to you who you are. Be the one that seeks adventure in the vastness of nature. This outdoor adventure center offers high-intensity hands on thrills that put you in front of your true self. Find out a few ways to explore the territory.

Photo shooting

Be sure to first stop on the iconic Mather Point-a Kaibab limestone peninsula. If you arrive before mid morning or after mid afternoon, the sun will be low enough to cast broadening shadows over the rough cliffs and spires. This provides an impressive 3D effect across your entire field of view. Imagine the images you’ll be taking. It could be breathtaking. Also, the star-lit night sky is close to a fantasy when you see it, so be sure to bring equipment to capture it.

Birding

In 2014 Grand Canyon was designated as a globally important Bird area by the National Audubon Society. It played an important role in protecting 48 different bird species including the endangered California condor, Mexican spotted owl, peregrine falcon and pinyon jays. You are free to choose your personal favorite among 379 different species recorded there.

Trail adventures

Those seeking hiking trails will find themselves in a hiking heaven. Having that said, The Grand Canyon trails are best appreciated by those with some experience because there are no easy trails to go on. For visitors with mobility limitations there is a 13 mile paved Rim trail close to the edge of the canyon. 358 trails have been established in the park. 126 trails are maintained and the rest are not, which makes them challenging for an inexperienced hiker.

Rock climbing

Because of the soft chossy rocks most of the Grand Canyon is unfit for climbing. However there are some climbs, mostly in the South Rim area around the Grand Canyon Village and Desert View Drive. The climbs in the Grand Canyon Village are made of Kaibab Limestone. There are several boulder problems and short sport climbs to try out.

Riding

Those that want to move faster over the canyon ground can bring their own bikes or rent some to be ridden on biking trails. There are approximately 20 miles of Greenway trails to bike ride including a paved six-mile section going all the way to Tusayan and just a little less roadside miles to try out. The bicycle rider can experience scenery that is unavailable to the motorcycle riders. Regarding riding You can also choose to ride mules and horseback, and have Jeep tours.

Rafting

You can settle for calm-water one-day adventures or enjoy one to three week whitewater rafting opportunities which offer a whole new perspective from the bottom of the canyon few people ever see.

So, unleash the adventurer in yourself and embrace the adrenaline that gives you the experience of your life!
